Frequently asked questions on becoming a Discovery Girl
We consider all of our readers “Discovery Girls” — girls who are curious, strong, and enthusiastic about becoming the very best they can be. In each issue of Discovery Girls, we also feature 12 “Discovery Girls” we’ve chosen to represent their state in the magazine. Every other month, we visit a different state for a two-day photo shoot, during which our 12 Discovery Girls from that state help us put together the issue.
If you are between the ages of 8 and 12 and we are visiting your state, fill out the questionnaire. Follow the instructions for sending it to us, and make sure you send it before the deadline for your state. Then, wait patiently. If you are chosen, you will receive a phone call to let you know. After we’ve contacted all of our Discovery Girls for your state, we’ll post a notice on the Next Stop page. Good luck!

If your state is not listed yet, don’t be sad! You can still send us a questionnaire. We read them all, and we do want to know what you think. When we’re ready to visit your state, we’ll make sure you’re considered.
We do revisit states, so don’t give up hope. However, if we’ve been to your state within the last year, it’s not likely we’ll return for another year at least.
Unfortunately we are not able to contact all the girls who are not chosen, but we do post a notice on the Next Stop page when all the girls from a state have been notified.
Not necessarily. You should update your questionnaire once a year, but mostly because you’ve changed, not because the questions have. We change the questions occasionally because there’s always something new we want to know, but it doesn’t really matter which version of the questionnaire you fill out. When we decide to visit a state, we consider all the girls from that state who have sent in questionnaires in the last year.

Unfortunately Ali receives so many letters she isn’t able to answer them all personally. She tries to choose letters for her column that will benefit many of our readers. If you have a serious problem or need advice immediately, you should ask an adult you trust for help.
We receive too many submissions to publish them all. For the greatest chance of seeing your work in the magazine, make sure it is your best effort and that the topic is one that is of interest to many girls.

Discovery Girls is published every other month, so you will receive six (6) issues per year. You can expect to receive your subscription issue 2 weeks prior to the issue date. For example, you will receive your October/November subscription issue in mid-September.
If you have seen the latest issue of Discovery Girls on the newsstand but have not yet received your copy, it’s probably in the mail and will arrive shortly. Please wait until the 30th of the month prior to the current issue month (i.e., July 30th for the August/September issue) before reporting a problem. If you have recently ordered a new subscription of Discovery Girls and have not yet received your first issue, please be aware that it takes 8 to 10 weeks to start your subscription. If more than 10 weeks have passed since you placed your order and you still have not received your first issue, please click here to notify customer service.

Renewal instructions must be received 6-8 weeks prior to subscription expiration to assure delivery without a break in service.
If you have received a bill after you paid for your subscription, the bill and your payment probably crossed in the mail. If you want to check your account status at any time to verify that we have received your payment or if you feel that there has been an error in processing your payment, click here. Your magazine label contains valuable information about your subscription. To ensure that your magazine is delivered to you in the most efficient manner, please verify that your street number, street name, city, state, and zip code are correct. This allows the post office to assign the correct +4 zip code, which speeds the delivery of your magazine. To expedite customer service requests online, please provide your name and address exactly as it appears on your magazine’s mailing label. Once your online account is established, you will be identified by your email address for future customer service requests. When contacting us via postal mail, please provide a copy of your magazine’s mailing label with your correspondence. If you do not have a copy of your label, please write your name, address and postal code exactly as it appears on your label.
