Tips for getting your questionnaire noticed
Be Creative!
Why? Because it will set your questionnaire apart! Questionnaires that are presented in a cute, unique way stand out! One Discovery Girl made a scrapbook as her questionnaire, and pasted her answers on each page. Another drew illustrations to help explain her answers. One girl even used Photoshop to make her own Discovery Girls cover! If you put a lot of effort into your questionnaire and make it look different, we will definitely notice!
We Want Details, Details, Details!
Read the questions carefully, then explain your answers in detail. For example, if your dream is to become a pediatrician, tell us why. You play five sports? What have you learned about yourself from playing each one? Are there days when you feel discouraged…or inspired? Your responses help us to get to know the real you, so don’t be shy!
Tip #3: Include a Photo and a Parent’s Signature!
Remember to send a recent photo of yourself and have your questionnaire signed by a parent! We’ve had so many girls send in great questionnaires that didn’t come with a photo or a parent’s signature. Without both your picture and your parent’s signature, we can’t consider you to be a Discovery Girl, no matter how well you’ve answered the questions! So don’t forget to include the photo and the signature!
Bonus Tips!
Tell us about your embarrassing moments and Worst Day stories! Not only do these stories give you another chance to be in the magazine, they also give us more opportunities to get to know the amazing person that you are! The more you have to say, the better!
For each issue, we travel to a different state to work with 12 girls. They model clothes, write articles, and help us make DG!
If your state isn’t listed here, you can still send a questionnaire. We read them all, and when we’re ready to come to your state, you’ll be considered!

Frequently asked questions on becoming a Discovery Girl
We consider all of our readers “Discovery Girls” — girls who are curious, strong, and enthusiastic about becoming the very best they can be. In each issue of Discovery Girls, we also feature 12 “Discovery Girls” we’ve chosen to represent their state in the magazine. Every other month, we visit a different state for a two-day photo shoot, during which our 12 Discovery Girls from that state help us put together the issue.
If you are between the ages of 8 and 12 and we are visiting your state, fill out the questionnaire. Follow the instructions for sending it to us, and make sure you send it before the deadline for your state. Then, wait patiently. If you are chosen, you will receive a phone call to let you know. After we’ve contacted all of our Discovery Girls for your state, we’ll post a notice on the Next Stop page. Good luck!
To find out which states we’ll be visiting in the next few months, check out the Next Stop page.
If your state is not listed yet, don’t be sad! You can still send us a questionnaire. We read them all, and we do want to know what you think. When we’re ready to visit your state, we’ll make sure you’re considered.
We do revisit states, so don’t give up hope. However, if we’ve been to your state within the last year, it’s not likely we’ll return for another year at least.
Unfortunately we are not able to contact all the girls who are not chosen, but we do post a notice on the Next Stop page when all the girls from a state have been notified.
Not necessarily. You should update your questionnaire once a year, but mostly because you’ve changed, not because the questions have. We change the questions occasionally because there’s always something new we want to know, but it doesn’t really matter which version of the questionnaire you fill out. When we decide to visit a state, we consider all the girls from that state who have sent in questionnaires in the last year.
