Why did you decide to apply to be a Discovery Girl? How did you find out DG was coming to your state and how did you feel when you found out?

I’ve been reading DG for about 3 years now and I always think it is so cool how they just pick everyday girls to be in the magazine and on the cover. I always thought it would be so fun to be one of those girls but I NEVER thought I would be picked.

We checked the website all the time to see where DG was going next, and when my sister Kayla and I saw that they were coming to B.C. Canada we were so excited, we both applied right away!!

Did you do anything special to make your questionnaire stand out? How long did it take you to put it together? How did you feel after you submitted your questionnaire?

There were a lot of questions to answer but it was really fun to do. It took a whole day to answer all the questions and submit it. That was after several days of thinking about how I was going to answer some of the questions. We also had to find some fun pictures of me to send in!

I think my questionnaire might have stood out because I talked about “Charity Rocks” which is a charity that my sister and I have started and we have raised over $2000 by selling painted rocks and donating all the money we earn to special charities. I had open heart surgery when I was 6 days old so one of the main charities we raise money for is Vancouver’s Children’s Hospital. We also like to raise money for “Free the Children”.

I was both excited and nervous after it was submitted; it was a long wait before the selection was made. I knew lots of girls would apply so I really didn’t think I would be one that was chosen!!

How did you find out you were selected as a Discovery Girl?  And how did you feel when you first found out?

My mom got the email saying that I was chosen as a Discovery Girl for BC when I was at my Dad’s. She called me right away! I couldn’t believe it!! I was so excited and so nervous at the same time!! My sister and I jumped up and down and screamed!! My sister was really happy for me!

What did you do to prepare for the shoot? How did you pick your outfit?

The next few weeks I had to think about what I wanted to wear for the profile picture and the behind the scenes day. I went through all my clothes and tried on a bunch of different outfits and then we went shopping. My mom & my sister helped me pick out a few great outfits. It was lots of fun!!

I also had to answer a lot of questions to help with upcoming articles. It was fun because I knew what I was saying might be used in the magazine!

The last thing I had to do was pick out a prop for the profile picture. I wanted to hold one of the rocks we paint. Our rocks usually have fun words and sayings on them so I chose one that said “Wish it, Dream it, Do it.”

What did you do at the Behind the Scenes shoot? On the studio day?

On our first day in Vancouver we all met at Granville Island. I had never been there before so it was really neat! We went on the aqua bus and we had ice cream and walked around and had lots of fun taking pictures!

The next day was the studio day!! We got to pose for so many pictures, we had our profile pictures taken and tried out for the cover photo! It was a busy morning! Everyone was so excited! My mom and sister stayed and helped with the snack in the morning. I was happy they got to stay! My sister even had a few pictures taken with me! I was in the first group at 8:00 so we were pretty much done when the second group arrived. We all had lunch together and posed for a few group pictures and then it was time to go. I was sad when it was over!

What was your favorite part of the shoot?

I liked everything but my favorite part of the photo shoot was getting my profile photo taken and trying out for the cover photo with Luna! It was a great and fun experience!! I am so glad I was chosen!

Is there anything you want to tell our readers about being a Discovery Girl?

Being a Discovery Girl was a once in a lifetime experience that I will never forget! If you get a chance to try out, do it! Like my rock says, “Wish it, Dream it, Do it”!!

I live in the Okanagan so we came down to Vancouver for a few days to do the photo shoot. It was so much fun because we got to stay with my cousins in Vancouver. We did some fun things with them while we were there like ride on the Sea bus and the Sky train and some more shopping. On the way home we stopped at Whiterock and ran on the beach with our dog and visited a memorial bench for my Great Grandma and Grandpa. We left some flowers there. It was such a fun trip!!
