Discovery Girls — Allie Finkle’s Broadway Bound Contest Rules

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. To enter the contest you must write and submit a scene from your very own play. In 500 words our less, tell us what your play is about, how many characters are involved, and who they are, then put it all together to create a script. The 500 words or less includes both the summary and script. Mail entries to: Discovery Girls—Allie Finkle Contest PO Box 110760 Campbell, CA 95011. Entries will be judged on creativity, content, and execution. Every entry MUST have the following information: name, age, address, and telephone number. All entries must be received by December 31, 2009. Winners will be notified by January 31, 2010. All physical entries become the exclusive property of the Sponsor, and rights in winning entries become the exclusive property of Scholastic Inc. (“Scholastic”) and will not be acknowledged or returned. Sponsor and its agencies shall not be liable for (a) late, lost, stolen, misdirected, damaged, mutilated, postage due, incomplete or illegible entries or mail. (b) telephone, electronic, program, network, Internet, or computer delays, deletions, interruptions or other failures of any kind; (c) late, lost, damaged, failed, misdirected, incomplete, garbled, unintelligible, or delayed computer messages; or (d) any human error that may occur in the processing of any entry, nor are they responsible for any theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries, whether caused by the sender or any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in this Contest.

ELIGIBILITY: Contest is open to legal U.S. residents 8-12 years old, except those who are residents of the State of Maine and those whose members of their families living in the same household are employees of Sponsor, Scholastic, or their respective parent, subsidiaries, brokers, distributors, dealers, retailers, affiliates, and its advertising, promotion and production agencies, are not eligible to enter. Void in Maine and where otherwise prohibited or restricted by law.

One entry per person. By entering, entrants agree to abide by these rules, warrant and represent that their entry is their original work and does not infringe upon the rights of any third party and grant to Scholastic the right to edit, publish, promote and otherwise use their entries without further notice or compensation.

One (1) Grand Prize Winner will be chosen and will receive two round trip airline tickets to New York City, each Grand Prize package includes roundtrip coach class air transportation between gateway airport nearest to winner’s home and New York, hotel accommodations for two nights standard hotel lodging based on double occupancy in New York, and two tickets to a Broadway show. Prizing is for winner and PARENT/LEGAL GUARDIAN (estimated retail value: $2,000). All other costs and expenses are the sole responsibility of winner. All travel will take place between January 26, 2010 and July 26, 2010, except in the event flight availability requires earlier departure and/or later return date(s).

Four runners-up will receive a signed copy of each of the first four books in the Allie Finkle’s Rules for Girls series (Estimated retail value $65.00).

Winners will be notified by email, postal mail or telephone using the contact information provided to Sponsor. Prizes will be sent to the mailing addresses provided by winners.

No cash substitutions, transfers or assignments of prizes allowed, except by Scholastic in case of unavailability, in which case a prize of equal or greater value will be awarded.

Each winner and their parent/guardian will be required to sign and return an affidavit of eligibility and liability/publicity release within fifteen (15) days of notification attempt or an alternate winner may be selected. By accepting the prize, each winner grants to Sponsor and Scholastic the right to use his or her name, likeness, hometown, biographical information, and entry in any and all media for any and all lawful purposes, whether advertising, promotion or trade, including without limitation online and in print, in perpetuity without further notice or compensation, , except where prohibited by law. One or more winners may also be required to attend and participate in media and/or public relations events (the “Media Events”) designated by Scholastic and/or requested by various media outlets. Upon Scholastic’s request, and subject to winner’s availability, each winner agrees to participate in such Media Events without any further compensation. Scholastic shall have the right, in its sole discretion, to choose the winners it wishes to participate in such Media Events. By accepting the prize, all winners, whether or not chosen to participate in such Media Events, agree to release Scholastic, and its affiliates, subsidiaries, distributors and agencies, and hold each of them harmless, from any claims relating to their selection, non-selection, participation or non-participation in any Media Events. Taxes on prizes are the sole responsibility of the prize winners and their families.

GENERAL CONDITIONS: If the administration or integrity of the Contest is compromised or corrupted at any time, the Sponsor reserves the right to modify, suspend or cancel the Contest. Sponsor, Scholastic and their respective affiliates, subsidiaries, distributors and agencies shall not be liable for any injury or damage to an entrant’s or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from entering the Contest. Entrants agree that the decisions of Sponsor and Scholastic concerning all matters related to this Contest shall be final and binding. By entering the Contest, entrants agree to abide by these rules and to release and hold harmless Sponsor, Scholastic, their respective affiliates, subsidiaries, distributors and agencies from any and all liability for injuries or damages of any kind sustained in connection with participation in this contest and/or use of a prize. By entering the Contest, entrants affirm that they have read and accepted these Official Rules. Any person attempting to defraud or in any way tamper with this Contest will be ineligible for prizes.
